I purchased the MyWeigh 200 (.1 accuracy) for use in connection with fabric dyeing for my quilting. Its a nice, very small, very portable scale. I recently took it on a trip so I could do dyeing in the hotel bathroom, and it was very convenient being so small and portable and not needing an electrical plug.
With a 200 g capacity, you can easily weigh any amount of powdered dye you might need, and could weigh up to about a yard and a half of cotton fabric, although the small size of the scale would require it be folded up a lot to fit it on top of this very small scale (it would fit in my pocket).
My only two criticisms of this scale (at least for my purposes) are that it powers off very quickly to reserve battery power, but this requires me to keep turning it back on over and over again as I measure the urea, water and dye powder for each color's dye concentrate. The other criticism I have is that it is absolutely imperative to have accurate measurements of the dye powder to get accurate depth of shade in the end product, and I have noticed that I'll measure out the desired weight of dye powder, the scale will say 20.0 grams for several seconds, for example, then I'll reach for my funnel and the dye bottle, look down, and the scale will have shifted plus or minus .1 (to either 19.9 or 20.1) in the meantime, and I have to go back and adjust the amount of dye powder again.
I purchased this scale from rightonscales.com, one of the companies recommended by the instructor I took a fabric dyeing class from. The price was the best I found, I got the scale when I was supposed to, and it was well packaged for shipment. I understand that they do have a more strict return policy than some other vendors, so check it out before you buy. But a very positive experience personally with this purchase. |
